Do NOT sell Turkey F16 jets. You know better so I don’t need to say more.
Do continue to shine a light on the efforts of the citizens of Sudan & Myanmar to rid their countries of military rule. Do what you can to get Chevron to abandon their Yadna operation that has been funneling over $100 million to the junta.
On a lighter note, Halloween greetings! It’s too bad you & Jill can’t be at the WH today to hand out candies to the trick-or-treaters. I get a kick out of distributing goodies, but I require children to engage in the ritual of reciting the expected verse, “Trick or Treat.” Too many just thrust their bag out without a word.
It’s actually quite an odd activity. It’s the only time that neighbors visit & they do so in disguise so when we encounter each other at some later date, I won’t recognize them. I’d prefer a friendlier annual event. The kids could dress in up in their nicest outfit, knock on the door, introduce themselves & offer some kind of assistance. That would be well worth the reward of a sweet. Maybe you could incentivize such a day in your BBB. That might put it over the top.
I hold out hope that the tax credit for family caregivers will make it back into the plan. I spend $150 a week to get some help caring for my husband who uses a walker to get around & can’t get his own food. That’s roughly $7500/year. That’s on top of my labor to care for him. I can afford this, but so many families can’t. Today’s WP points out that family caregivers spend a quarter of their income on their loved ones so they can’t save for retirement or their own emergency funds. This cost lands primarily on women. Surely JM3 can understand why it’s necessary to give us some relief!
It’s too bad that a scheduling SNAFU made you miss out on the G20 photo shoot at the Treve fountain. The rest of the gang looked like they had some fun tossing coins over their shoulders. I hope they all wished for a good result from COP26.
