My dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

            As you know I have been avoiding writing about the Supreme Court nomination & haven’t looked into the backgrounds of the women who are on your list. I’ll just wait until you name the nominee tomorrow.

I have been troubled by the idea that you want the nominee to go through before the election so that you can ensure a ruling in your favor if the election goes to court. According to Noah Feldman’s Bloomberg Opinion piece your dream might not come true. He imagines that Brett Kavanaugh could join John Roberts “to cross party lines and save the court from the loss of legitimacy that would come with declaring Trump the winner in the aftermath of the confirmation of a new justice.” Wouldn’t that be a surprise?

            On your stop at the airport in Newport News today you will be very close to my mother’s house. The folks in Williamsburg would love for you to swing through to see the House of Burgess, which paved the way for democracy by housing the general assembly of elected officers from around the VA colony. I’m not sure how the landowners elected the 22 Burgesses who represented the 11 plantations in the colony. They might have had ballots. I guess they trusted the process, because it worked for 150 years. Perhaps visiting the House of Burgess would help restore your faith in the democratic process so you could stop being so worried about people cheating.

            I’m sure you’ve heard that Governors Ralph Northam of VA & Mike Parsons (MLP) of MO & their wives contracted CV. MLP will be missing his debate with his challenger today. I hope you’ll take proper precautions to avoid getting it yourself. Your crazy travel schedule today has you in FL, GA, DC & VA where you will come into contact with lots of people. It only takes one person to pass CV on to you. Best to mask up & keep your distance.
