DJT,
Today, you & I are both having beautiful weather outside – clear skies, comfortable temperature, bright sunshine. It’s going to be such a nice day that you will, undoubtedly, be tempted to play golf. I’m sure you are aware that would be a bad idea.
This week in my Zoom Room, I asked my students to give me a weather report – the weather outside & the weather inside. I had to ask about the weather outside because we were all in different places. Some were in the East Bay, some in the South Bay, some in Vacaville & some here in Davis. In this 100-mile radius the temperature can vary widely so I wanted to know if they were as hot as I was. I asked about the weather inside because we are each being affected by this moment differently.
I wish I could say that my weather inside was clear & bright. I don’t know about you, but I go from being cloudy to stormy to drizzly. ≈ Seeing images of Derek Chauvin with his knee on George Floyd’s neck & his hands in his pockets makes me angry. Hearing you say that George Floyd would be happy about the job numbers makes me cringe. Seeing all of those people together in the streets makes me worry. Hearing the angst in the voices of the protestors makes me weep. I’m trying to find some equilibrium, but I’m afraid neither you, nor I, will achieve that any time soon.
Since it’s Sunday, I have to repeat my usual plea to you. Go to church – better yet, join a Zoom worship service. Your buddy, Pastor Darrell Scott is preaching up a storm right now. It’s streaming on You Tube. He’s saying that “you can grow through anything.” He’s intense & the folks at his New Spirit Revival Church are repeating, “I can deal with whatever.”
I sure hope we can, too.
HYINTL,
