            Smiles are hard to come by these days, so thanks for making me smile as I read the Bangor Daily News (BDT) about your visit to ME today. How exciting to read about your meeting with commercial fishermen! According to the BDT, Fishers around the world are turning to local marketing as a response to CV. That’s the only time I eat lobster, fresh off the boat at the marina. So, I only eat it when I visit my cousins in Friendship, Maine.

Have you ever been on a lobster boat? I have & realized that lobstering is addicting. Like gambling it operates on a schedule of variable reinforcement. You never know when you’ll hit the jackpot & pull up a trap with several lobsters in it. You might get 3 full traps in a row & then have several empties. Just when you are getting discouraged, you pull up a trap that has 1 in it which keeps you going. You have to throw ½ of them back, because they are either too small or too big. The lobstermen joke that they are farming lobsters, because those little guys get caught over & over again & may be dependent on the traps for their food source. It’s all good because lobsters are so delicious!!!!

            Even though I love the idea of you spending time with lobster farmers, I encourage you to consider postponing your trip. The Gov is trying to keep the peace & she’s worried that your visit is going to tax the system since protests are popping up around the state. Maine is full of old folks & they are having a hard-enough time with the stress of CV, they don’t need to be worried about whether some misguided kid with a gun is going to start taking potshots at people who demonstrating at your visit to Guilford, a town too tiny to have its own police force.

It’s too bad that Sen. SMC won’t be joining you. Do you think she’s gambling that Mainers have lost their affection for you? She says she has things to do in DC today & already visited Guilford in May. I hope you’ll take her word for it & refrain from saying anything nasty about her.
