Friend, DJT,
Did you know that the “Contact the WH” site was hacked yesterday? When I tried to post my letter, “The Council on Environmental Quality” appeared. Do you think KJU’s people are messing with your software? I hope not.
I have a 4-year old neighbor, Ben, who likes to putter around in the garden with his dad. He talks a lot, providing earnest reports about what he is seeing. When he senses that his father is no longer paying attention, he repeats, “Dad, Dad, Dad ….” until he gets a response and then he continues his monologue. I find this banter somehow comforting. Ben is not worried about CV or police brutality. He is innocent of all of the trauma in the outside world. I yearn for that kind of peace of mind & I’m sure that you do, too.
Why not spend a day in the Rose Garden surrounded by your grandchildren? Keep the media away. Just sit and listen to them chatter. Restoring your inner peace will help you to appreciate the forces that are impacting us right now so you can promote harmony. “Dominate the streets with compassion” is not the message that we need. We need to hear something like “We are not enemies, but friends…Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection.” Let “the better angels of our nature” prevail. Of course, you can put that into your own words so you don’t sound like you’re from 1861.
According to Kim Strassel, opining in the WSJ, you are in a battle with yourself. She agrees with me that we need “calm leadership” right now. She notes that “if the Trump campaign can’t turn things around, the country could be looking at total Democratic control for the first time since 2010—and a liberal Senate majority that may well eliminate the filibuster for legislation and pack the courts.” While I would prefer that outcome, I know you don’t. I encourage a reset if you would like to stay in office. But perhaps you’ve had enough & that would be fine, too.
HYITL,
