It looks like you saw all kinds of cool stuff at the almost-launch of Space-X yesterday. It’s too bad that they had to abort it just 10 minutes before take-off. Fingers crossed that the weather is better on Sat.
I am feeling overwhelmed by the news today. How about you? George Floyd’s killing & the aftermath in MN, 100,000 deaths to CV, Chinese crackdown on Hong Kong protesters – it’s hard to know where to start.
Folks are talking a lot about silver linings these days, so maybe I’ll start there. A benefit of my “compassionate retreat” is that I am getting to know my backyard and driveway really well. Yesterday I found a dead lizard by the garbage cans. It must have just died because there was no decay so I took a photo and uploaded it to iNaturalist. Now other geeks are weighing in on whether it’s a Northern or Southern Alligator lizard. What’s your silver lining?
Are you really numbers-obsessed? Ashley Parker writing in the WP today claims you are & thinks that you should be doing more to show your grief over the loss of 100,000 lives. I encourage you to give Dartmouth Religious Studies Prof. Randall Balmer a call. He has examined how presidents respond to tragedies & can help you understand why tweeting is insufficient for the Consoler in Chief.
If you are indeed numbers-obsessed, I think you will find the explanation in today’s NYT of herd immunity quite edifying.
I look forward to hearing what you and Melania learn about this year’s hurricane season at your meeting with NOAA. Wouldn’t be great if you had the power to put a stop to all storms until we’re done with CV? Maybe you can work on that.
