My dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

Do you collect anything? Well, I know you have a collection of hotels and golf courses, but how about stuff? Do you have a collection of ties? Cufflinks? Watches? Golf Clubs? I have a “collection” of math manipulatives, succulents, vegetable seeds and books. My husband has bicycles, wood for carpentry projects, tape, glue & various other items you’d find in a hardware store. Sometimes, the stuff gets in the way, but every now and then, we’re happy to have just the right thing on hand.

I ask because it seems our collection of medical supplies is not what it needs to be, & every newspaper has an article about the inadequacy of the “Strategic National Stockpile.” It’s too bad that every country in the world is trying to buy the same stuff & everyone is frustrated. I’m afraid that you aren’t helping matters much by appearing to play favorites by allocating the limited supplies we do have to your favorite states.

Allocation of resources is an imperfect science & the profit motive does not always insure that they are allocated in the best possible manner. That’s what I learned in my econ class. It’s clear that there’s not enough medical equipment to go around and in hindsight, we should have collected more of it to have on hand when the moment came. Since we can’t get blood out of a turnip, please, make it clear how allocation decisions are being made & please refrain from giving preferential treatment to some states.

            HYITL,
