My dear Friend, DJT,

            Do you consider yourself a senior citizen?  I don’t, even though I’m 60 now. Inside I feel like the same person who walked down the halls of New Trier High School hoping to make it to class on time. I ask because I’m afraid that in trying to be funny, you offended many folks in your generation with your latest meme of JRB. Due to your handling of CV you have lost some of your appeal to voters over 65, so best to avoid making jokes about JRB’s advanced age. Even 99-year-olds with dementia find that kind of thing troubling. According to today’s NYT, life-long Republican Edward Kozlowski told his daughter to mark the box for JRB when she assisted him in completing his mail-in-ballot the other day.           

            Speaking of advanced age, I am worried about a couple from Davis Friends Meeting who have contracted CV. They are both about 85. She has dementia, & he has mobility issues. She just went to a nursing home in Stockton & he’s here in Davis. He wants to go get her, but he’s not allowed to leave his house. He needs meals delivered twice a day & the Friends are trying to take on that work. I doubt we have the person power to do it. It makes me wonder about all of the other elderly people who have been living independently & then get confined to their homes. Do we have systems in place so they can get the help & care they need?

            Safe travels to Des Moines today. I’m sure you know that the GOP candidates in Iowa are all in tight races. Since there’s no longer a straight party line voting option, a vote for you is not necessarily a vote for all the other Republicans on the ballot. It’ll be interesting to see how things turn out in the Hawkeye State this year. If you’re up to it, maybe you can join Joni Ernst (JKE) on her Harley to cruise along the MS river. It’s going to be a beautiful fall day & JKE knows all of the back roads from her annual “Joni’s Ride across Iowa.” That would make you feel young again.
