My dear friend and president, DJT,

            It looks like the Nantucket ferries have been canceled today so the hob-nobbers will have to stay in Boston this weekend and watch Dorian on TV. Who knew that a hurricane could stir up so much media attention? I'm sure that you've heard about "Sharpie Gate." Did you read  James Poniewozik's analysis of it in the NYT today? He says, you are governed "by the imperative of reality TV: Never de-escalate and never turn the volume down." Maybe that's why I keep my eyes on you. I have replaced my TV addiction with an addiction to watching you. Well, I haven't completely replaced it - I've been watching Jane, the Virgin with my daughter every night this summer, and last night, when she wasn't home, I watched American Ninja Warrior (ANW), and still can't quite understand why I am surprised when someone falls off of an obstacle. At least ANW has commercials, so I can run to the kitchen to do dishes in 3 minute spurts of industriousness. My mom taught me that trick. Anyway, I am plagued with the same love/hate relationship with TV as I have with your presidency. Do you think it will end in 2020?

            I have to sign off so I can get things tidied up around here. My niece is visiting today and I don't want her reporting back to the family that our house is a mess.
