My Dear Friend and President, DJT,
How was Charlotte? I was sorry to hear that you would not be "entertaining any compromises" with Canada on the NAFTA treaty. I know that you need to convince your base that you are the dominator, but no one is going to want to negotiate with the USA if there are no compromises. As you said yourself, "it's insulting."
I was relieved to see that Chrystia Freeland, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs is still willing to talk. In fact, she thinks it's possible to have a win-win-win. You should read the speech she made when she received FP's "Diplomat of the Year" Award in June. She argued that even though "authoritarianism is on the march," the rule of international law can still prevail, and we will all be better off. Wouldn't it be great if she's the next PM of Canada?
I like the idea that the new NAFTA will have labor standards with teeth where all workers involved in making cars will have to make at least $16/hour. The world would be a better place if everyone could make a living wage. Was that your idea?
It looks like it's a cloudy day there in DC. Perfect day to take Barron to the Smithsonian. The Archive of American Art has an exhibit of "Mail Art" that sounds interesting. Go check it out.
Best,
RCA
