            I am getting ready to leave Dunbar and head back to Madison to catch a movie with my BFF, MMF. We plan to go to Farewell. Have you seen it? MMF is a sinophile and lived in Beijing for a while back when the USA and China were just becoming friendly. It blows my mind that in my lifetime we went from having almost no interactions with China to having transnational families where Grandma lives in China and kids grew up in the USA. The movie tells the story of one such family and their last visit to Grandma who doesn't know she's got terminal cancer. 

            I hope your vacation is going well. I hope you will take a few minutes to look into the terrible consequences of the latest ICE raid in MS. I'm sure you will be as troubled as I am by the videos of distraught children asking for help in finding their detained parents. Please help me understand the logic in arresting people who have been in the country for several years, paying taxes and working hard at an unpleasant job. They aren't hurting anyone. According to Angela Stuesse, a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill professor, your administration targeted 5 privately owned poultry companies because you "wanted to make a big show of being hard on immigration, but wanted to make sure the economic fallout didn’t hit the pocketbooks of the shareholders." It seems only fair to raid every poultry plant, so please make sure that the Perdue plants get hit sometime soon.

            I wonder how Ivanka and Jared celebrated Tisha B’Av. What did they have to say about the folks who chose to spend their day annual day of mourning wearing their "Never Again" t-shirts and protesting in Lafayette Square?

            It seems that people all over the world are riled up. I wonder if we'll see anything like the Hong Kong airport shutdown in the USA anytime soon.
