My dear Friend and president, DJT,
It's a quiet morning here in Davis, CA. I am somewhat bummed to read about Guatemala's President Jimmy Morales. How many TV stars are in positions of power these days? According to the NYT he is, "an unpopular president backed by hard-line military, right-wing parties and conservative elites. He disdains democratic norms and institutions, especially when they investigate his family and top government officials." He expelled the UN's Cicig group sent to help get rid of corruption in the government. Do you think he can be trusted to follow through on this asylum deal you worked out with him? Let's find some other way to help the people of his country and his neighboring countries so they can live safe and happy lives and not have to leave.
Rather than trying to implement Stephen Miller's cold hearted plans for refugees, I encourage you to consider the ideas that Fox published this morning where Matthew Soerens, Jenny Yangsuggest that we raise the ceiling on the number of refugees that we let into the country. They write, "If we are going to close the golden door on refugees altogether, we should perhaps surrender the Statue of Liberty to our northern neighbor (Canada, which let in more refugees than we did this year even though they are one-ninth our size.)
It's supposed to get up to 100 degrees today so I have to get out to my garden soon before the sun starts scorching things. We have an infestation of leaf footed bugs that are sucking on our tomatoes so we have to hunt them down and eradicate them!!! I've got a lot to do, and I know you do, too.
Time to get going.
