My Dear Friend and President, DJT,
I understand that you are off to the Panhandle of FL today to check in with folks about Hurricane Michael recovery efforts. I am holding you and all of the affected people in the Light.
I had not paid much attention to this storm until I read the Tallahassee Democrat this morning. I was surprised to learn that it was 4th damaging wind event in the "Big Bend" in the past two years. That was fortunate for Tallahassee because they'd already lost many of their big trees in previous storms so they didn't get as much damage as places like Western Gadsden County. Apparently, that's far enough inland they haven't been hurt by previous storms and folks there did not expect it to be too bad. According to the Tallahassee Democrat meteorologist, the fed weather people forecast the storm track perfectly. They just did not predict that the storm would intensify as it hit land and travel so fast. I hope you get a chance to visit the folk there and reassure them that you'll do everything in your power to help them.
Did you read the NYT this morning and see the article about the Gulf side house in Mexico Beach that's still standing? It was just built recently and the owners took extraordinary measures to fortify the house. It's pretty cool that all that science and engineering worked! Don't you think? It may have cost more but their's is one of the only houses still standing in the neighborhood. You should check it out if you get a chance.
I was surprised to see a woman in a hijab conducting the interview with the meteorologist. Turns out she is reporter, Nada Hassanein, born and raised in FL and wears the hijab to evoke respect. I hope you will answer her questions when she appears at your press conference today. She's covering Hurricane Michael, so I'm sure she'll be there. Isn't it wonderful how diverse and inclusive our country is?
Peace be with you,
RCA
