My Dear Friend and President, DJT,
Are you making any New Year’s resolutions for 2020? Andrew Malcolm opining in the Miami Herald today suggests that you should. He thinks you should follow Melania’s example and “have class” instead of having “crass.” He believes you could do this by refraining from talking so much. I think that’s a good idea. As a Quaker I practice silence as a means to hear the “still, small voice of God.” I encourage you to give it a try.
My resolve for 2020 is to take life one day at a time, fight fear and spark love. I invite you to join me in these efforts.
Also, please resolve to do more to encourage science. Today’s NYT says you are “sidelining researchers and their work.” This is not a good idea. As GOP Sen Lamar Alexander (TN) says, “the US’ secret weapon (is) our extraordinary capacity for basic research.” It leads to “gains in life expectancy, lowered air pollution and increased farm productivity” among many other things. Mao Zedong went after intellectuals in 1966 and it got ugly. You don’t want to follow in those footsteps.
I’d appreciate it if you can let me know if you prefer longer or shorter letters.
Thanks in advance for your attention to this request,
