My dear Friend and President, DJT,

This will have to be brief. I have to leave the house at 7:15 so I can be in a classroom ready to explore the volume of prisms at 8:15. I wish you could join us.

It looks like you got a warm reception in NOLA yesterday. According to the Times-Picayune Rep. Stephen Scalise met Air Force One and presented you with some tasty King Cake. Did you share it with the Clemson Tigers at the WH reception later in the day? I sometimes make King Cake. I enjoy hiding the little baby inside. Maybe I'll make one this Sunday.

What did those Tigers think of the fast food spread that you offered them last night? Since they are growing college boys they were probably not too mad that they missed out on the gourmet fare usually provided at the WH. This furlough is going to get expensive for you if you have to keep buying snacks for such events. I guess you can afford the $3000. Wasn't it silly that the WP went to the trouble of calculating exactly how much it all cost?

Have you read Michelle Obama's new book, "Becoming"? We'll be talking about it in my book club tomorrow night. It's refreshing to see that her marriage had some struggles, and reminds me that no one is perfect. You should encourage Melania to take a look. I think she'd get some good ideas on how to navigate the challenges of being First Lady.

I wonder how the shutdown might affect me today. We'll see.
